Shipwrecked

February 2004  ·  despair · lost years

Here, stranded on this dusty shore
This boat of life will sail no more
Nor will it rest so trapped it remains
Never relieved of its working pains

As murky waters engulf its bow
The man within got lost somehow
The warm engines have cooled and ceased
A banquet table devoid of a feast

Below, the deck is flooded with fear
A shattered nerve will draw a tear
The duties it had learnt to shirk
And the rusted lifeboat failed to work

It once sailed free through the open sea
In a time when all made sense to be
Why could it not hear the solemn fates tell
Shipwrecked here in a living Hell
